First Generation 70 Series Armrest on an 850!

Post by luketrash »

I forgot I put an esnipe out on this armrest top, but I ended up winning it:

I'm curious if this will fit in my 850? I currently have the crappy plastic lid with no cupholders.

I test drove a 98 V70 GLT last week and it had an armrest that looked similar to this one and it was excellent. It was thick enough to reach my elbow naturally and comfortably..

If anyone knows if this C70 one would fit, let me know.. Not that I can do much about it if it doesn't fit ;)

It looks like the armrests on my 850s except my cupholders have the full cup rings, not just rounded arms. From a '93 C70? (no such animal)

I don't know how the armrest lids without cupholders are shaped and hinged, but I guess you can always work with what you have to get the "new" one on.

Yeah, I couldn't remember what year the movie The Saint came out.. That's the first sighting of the C70 I remember.

I think 1997???

Anyway, everyone was asleep on that auction.. I got outbid up to 60 bucks on 850/SV70 armrest auctions...

The hinge plate looks the same as what I have to work with. I just hope all of the dimensions match up.

The cup holder/top of arm rest from your auction is the exact same one that is in my S70. I'm trying to recall exactly what an 850 arm rest looks like. I think it will fit...at least for your sake, I hope it does. If not, offer it up for sale here in the for sale section. Someone will be wanting it.

I'll look later (I have both cars here) but I'm fairly sure the center armrests are slightly different, enough so that it won't just bolt up

as long as its the same size at the v70 it should fit. I have replaced a few of these on different year cars and they all interchange well.

The only thing i noticed is the catch which is to hold the lid shut does not always catch just above the emergency brake lever. But really is not a big issue.

Does this mean you can finally enjoy your morning coffee on the way to work?

I wasn't looking for the cup holder, so much as I was looking for something thicker that would actually work as an arm rest.

My 960 has those really flimsy slide out plastic trays both to the front and back that would hold 4 drinks. I don't trust it to not break off.

And on the 850s, with the window controls right there, I fear what would happen during a drink spill.

Even though my S70 doesn't have the window controls right there, I always keep a paper towel folded into 1/4 sitting in the cup holder when I have a cup, like from McDonald's in there full of coke or something. Seems to help absorb the condensation and keep a mess from forming under the cup.

Well, my C70 armrest arrived today and it does indeed fit. The hinge fits right on and the place where the magnet is on mine has a plastic part on the C70 version.

I did have to get out my file and create a notch on the parking brake piece so the locking tab would work.

I might rig up something to make it magnetic.. I kind of like that better.

Now I can take an open can of soda with me on my adventures!
