With 95,000 miles on my wife's XC70, I am told that the transfer case on the rear drive shaft that contains the viscous coupler or mucous muffler such thing is caput. The rear drive shaft spins freely so no power is being transfered to the rear wheels. This is not good in our recent snow storms.
Does anybody know the least expensive path to take to get this item replaced/repaired/reworked? I work on my cars as needed so my mechanical talents are extensive. However, I have consiously stayed away from this vehicle until she took it to the shop for the ABS module problem and paid over $800 for a replacement.
Now I come to find out that Volvo knows that the ABS module, viscous coupler and others are very low reliability items.
Thank you for your rapid response
