Volvo 850 tranny kick going into reverse

Volvo 850 tranny kick going into reverse

mine is a 1997, but i have personally driven other volvos in the the pre-2000 years that also suffer from this issue. When the car is warmed up, going from -D- to -N- then to reverse, it kicks quite roughly. mine in particular does it regardless of how slowly your shifting, and the rpms are steady.

so to the real question, when is it a point of concern for the life of the tranny? can this be just a quirk of the older volvo trannies, or is it in fact a sign of old fluid (in my case fluid is very clean) or a tranny on its way out?

I had a pretty good thump when the transmission buckle mount was bad.

It's always done it to some extent though, especially when changing quickly (like to parallel park). A quick stop in "N" will lessen the impact.

Mine was from the front engine mount which is the one located on the passenger side of the engine below the timing belt area. The mount did not fully collapse like the first one but it did start to rattle the inside of the car and shifted hard when moving the Lever. The transmission itself had no problems.

even STOPPING in -N- even for few seconds has no effect.

but ill have to check these mounts, if i end up doing the REAR MAIN SEAL, ill need to make sure i have a good tranny in place or else its going to be one hell of a waste of time.
