2000 s80 Factory radio blinks when volume increases

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 s80 Factory radio blinks when volume increases

Post by rlora4 »

Hello all, I was hoping to get some insight on my radio problem from anyone who has experience with said problem and successfully overcame issue. The functionality of my radio works fine in pretty much all the features; except, when I increase the volume on the radio, the the display light on the radio seems to flicker until it reaches a point that it will go completely dark on the display. Is there any solution out there that can be done to alleviate the symptom? I have searched the internet for a solution, but haven't come up with any results. I really want to retain the factory radio since I have heard that a used radio from another Volvo won't mate up unless a new radio is purchased, and I am not going to do that since a new radio would run me like 500 with the software.

Thanks
Rey

The new radio should work, but the steering wheel controls won't without a software flash. The software is about $30, plus the fee they want to charge for their time.

If you're looking for proof, I bought a second hand HU-80x and tried that. Besides the fact that the unit itself had a dead CD player, it worked fine minus the steering wheel controls.

Volvo also says you need software to add their factory amplifier. Added it anyways. All it does is show an error code in Vida. No lights or funny behaviour out of it though.
