1988 240 Wagon No start, fuel delivery problem
My 240 will start and run only with terminal 85 of the fuel pump relay grounded and power jumped to fuse #4. It will continue to run with the ground dropped off the relay but dies when power is dropped off the fuse. Our local Volvo expert has suggested a bad ignition switch. Any thoughts?

Jumping terminals 30 and 87/2 should activate the fuel pump. The relay itself is suspect. These relays are known to go bad often, causing all sorts of strange problems. Seeing as how it is a cheaper part than the ignition switch, I would start there. Cheaper still is carefully cleaning all of your fuse terminals.

Bingo! Poor connection at the 25amp fuse under the hood. Passed enough current to sense voltage downstream but not enough to run the pumps. Back on the road!rgk wrote:Cheaper still is carefully cleaning all of your fuse terminals.
