Looks good!
Pay attention to the front ends too, make sure they go up with the cover.

I pull all of the screws, as the cover is usually glued to the head, then I use the cams to help free the cover from the head by turning them. That also frees the cams from the cover and head, making it easier to lift the cover (from the can end) without the risk of the cams falling back on the head and damaging the head or cover lobes.
If you need a set of NA cams let me know, I have a couple of sets. If the cover is off, might was well toss some NA cams in there, I would.

Back at it. Last thing remaining before I can start pulling cam cover is exhaust manifold. I removed the 10 13mm nuts (3 came with studs). It won't budge. I noticed there's a bracket on mine that I didn't read about anywhere. The top nut was 13mm, and the bottom is 17mm. I need to run and get a socket, as my only 17mm is a 12-point, and I don't want to risk rounding it.
Once I remove that bracket, will the manifold break free enough to get it out of the way? Or will I need to disconnect at turbo, too?

Looks like you could remove the two bolts that hold the bracket to the engine, rather than the nuts holding the manifold to the bracket?
EDIT: I think you only need to disconnect the manifold, can leave the turbo in place. May want to get help lifting the head out though. Did you disconnect the water pipe back there? That one trips some people up.

I just realized that in closer, close inspection. I think too much breathing in PB Blaster, perhaps.
I found the water pipe to be easy! Going back together with new gasket, that may be another story.
I didn't unbolt the thermostats housing where it connect to head. Didn't see how to get a torx in there.

The cam cover is off, cams stayed put, and nothing broke. For a first timer, that was so nerve racking. The cam sprocket side was really stubborn cracking the seal.
Had to call it for today. Tomorrow evening, head comes off (I hope!).

Nice work. I suggest a long breaker bar for the head bolts, you want steady smooth force not to jerk on it.

I am curious where people get their exhaust valves (and all the 20 valve stem seals) these days?
a. Machine shop?
b. Volvo OEM?
c. Osvat brand?
