1983 245 DL Fuel Pump connectors

Post by Meadstein »

Hello all,
I have a fuel pump question that I hope someone can help me with. I replaced the 2 fuel pumps and the fuel filter on my 83 245, and I used Airtex pumps (aftermarket). The connections for the main pump were different than the aftermarket, so I cut the wires to accommodate the new pump with different connectors. The aftermarket pump is soooooo noisy, and it sounds like it's sucking air or fumes. I have verified that the in-tank pump is working properly, so I decided to swap the main pump for a OEM Bosch model.

Well, I did not think that I cut off the old connectors, and now I cannot find harness connectors to power the new Bosch pump. Any advice out there? Many thanks in advance!

I have looked at these in the auto parts stores, but none seem to fit. Both Autozone and O'Reily suggested Radio Shack. Nothing worked at these places. Do you know the size and/or where to purchase. Again, thanks for your time.

Did you reverse the wires on the replacement pump to see how much noise it made then? Was it marked + and - ?

It's possible. If I reversed the wires then the pump would work but run backward? Is that correct? I will give your suggestion a try. Thanks very much.

Rechecked wiring on both pumps and they are correct. It's just a NOISY pump. I still cannot find connectors for the Bosch main pump I bought to replace the noisy aftermarket....

Fixed! I got proper connectors off of a junked 740 horn and spliced connectors to my OEM Bosch fuel pump (I have Dave Barton of Dave's Volvo page to thank for this advice). NO more noise, and autozone refunded my money on the aftermarket pump!
