I would suggest oil changes at 5000 miles or each 6 months (unless gets pretty dark/black sooner) I have a 94 850 Turbo
Should be a sticker under the hood or filler door maybe about fuel, but I run mine at 89 octane no problem (but the fuel where I live in Canada is probably better quality, since I am close to the plant up north.)
Tuning parts are all over the net, check links from forums, as they are pretty reliable sources.

at 5000 miles?! are you kidding me? i was under the impression if you have a turbo the oil should be changed every 2000-2500 miles. my 2000 nissan oil change is 3000miles. also, is synthetic recommened or dino oil?nightshift wrote:I would suggest oil changes at 5000 miles or each 6 months (unless gets pretty dark/black sooner) I have a 94 850 Turbo

The first thing you should do is get a Volvo service manual. It will outline the factory suggested service schedule. It also lists the type of oil by weight and certification (mine also highly recommends synthetic oil). Too many dealers and quick lube places have overstated the myth of changing oil every 3K miles. Read the factory recommended service schedules and remember that very few vehicles ever see "severe duty".
The manual will also tell you the recommended fuel octane. When I purchased my 850 I was told by the dealer to run premium gas. I run the recomended 87 octane with no issues. With the turbo you may have pinging issues and may need to run a higher octane.
The best thing you can do for your car is to educate yourself on it. Read as many posts on this site and other Volvo sites as you feel necessary (also use the search functions to drill down to specific issues). Good sites to check out:

The manual for my 850 Turbo says every 5,000 miles or 6 months which every comes first or 10,000 miles depending on use, up to 10K if primarily highway and more than 7 miles most trips which is typical of my driving. I change my oil every 5K miles, it's cheap insurance. I am going to switch to synthetic next change.
I run 87 octane which is recommended as the minumum octane in the manual, but the manual also says the car runs optimally on 91 octane. I ran 4 tanks of each, 87, 89 and 91, didn't see any change in performance or knocking. I did see a drop in mileage, (down to 18 mpg), on the first tank of each type of gas which eventually went back up to about 23 mpg. I"m back to running 87, at $1.65 a gallon vs. $1.85 for premium.
Contact Volvo and see if you can buy a manual, it would be worth it.

As others have mentioned, I was going by what Volvo service manual says, and is really a thing of driving conditions and oil types.
I use synthetic, especially because of the colder climate I' live in. Just research is the best advice for peace of mind, and make decisions based on that, and get a manual.
