1985 760 full is empty and empty is full on fuel gauge

so my problem is that the fuel gauge shows oposite.. so when i have a full gastank its on empty.. i have taken the sensor in gastank out and checked, it goes smooth on all values i put it on 0/4, 1/4, 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4.

only that 4/4 is empty and 0/4 is full..

i have searched for an answer on all the web it feels like.. so time to post a question and maby someone know why =D

Has the fuel gauge or the gauge sending unit been replaced?

i have a 4 pole gauge.. is that the newer gauge ?

The sending unit and pump on my 1988 760 Turbo Wagon looks like the unit on the left in your picture. I have read that the newer (maybe 93+) sending units will make the gauge work backwards.
