I really appreciate everyone's advice so far but currently trying to find a trusted and experienced volvo mechanic in my area to come over and get me back on track or finish the job since I'm really stuck and don't want to do anymore damage.
I just wanted to give everyone an update. I removed the timing belt and once I did, I was able to move the crank clockwise again. With the cams TDC, the crank was about 10-11 o'clock compared to the cams...I think the belt jumped a couple teeth when I originally tried to remove the crank bolt. Since I was able to return the crank to TDC while I had the cams locked TDC with the rear locking tool and everything lines up, should i expect any timing or interference issues now? I feel like I should be in good shape if everything aligns and the crank turns freely once I reinstall the timing belt. This of course after doing the CCVT prep you mentioned in previous posts.

Sounds great, nice work. You should expect no issues now. With everything on their marks, you are definitely good to move ahead on the timing belt procedure.
One comment, just for clarification of minutiae: the timing marks do not actually put anything at TDC (top dead center). The crank mark puts #1 just shy of TDC, so the #1 piston is not all the way up. With the crank on the mark no cylinders are at TDC, so it is safe to rotate the cams freely. The cam marks just indicate where to put the cams when the crank is on the mark - there is no "TDC" for cams, just "on the mark." Which is what you meant, I know, just picking nits here to help ensure someone doesn't get confused reading this some other time.

No, I definitely appreciate the clarification. I'm learning a lot while I go so every tidbit of info helps! I'm the original owner of this '01 so I'm getting to know every inch of the car, a good thing since one major repair could cost more than the car's "worth" at this point.
