2000 v70xc etm 4801 and 6806

Post by mrscullini »

patient has about 204k

i have both these codes, i know the 4801 is a cat code and the 6806 is the tcv code. can the 6806 be causing the 4801?

i'm on the orignial cat. how many miles could i reasonably expect it to last?

The TCV is a wear item at this mileage.

Mathew (forum owner) just posted a DIY make your own TCV from various pieces. It's a solution that costs only around $35 as opposed to the over $80 for a new Pierburg OEM one.

Cat life varies. Factors are climate, tune of car and maintenance schedule adherence as well as O2 sensor timely replacement. Dirty injectors will kill a cat in no time as well as long tern fuel trims leaning to the rich side.

There are some guys on You Tube cleaning them with solvents and getting rid of cat codes.

i guess that should have been ecm, not etm...at any rate...

a little more history, i've now put about 130k on this thing and always taken good care and performed routine maintenance. cleared codes properly by replacing sensor, etc. had the head off at 185k and had the injectors cleaned. so i tend to think that i haven't done anything to abuse the cat.

so did a little work last weekend, cleaned the maf, checked vacuum lines, check the tcv by applying 12 volts. my 6806 code is gone.

for the 4801, i tried the lacquer thinner trick. added a gallon of thinner to 1/2 tank of fuel. my 4801 code is persistent. thinking it is the rear o2 sensor. it's been 100k miles at least since i last replaced it. gotta imagine it is likely that sensor that will throw the cat code (or a combo of the front/rear o2 sensors)?? i say this assuming the maf is good, no vacuum leak and the cat is properly functioning.

any thoughts???
