1995 850 turbo Will a used engine fit into a car trunk?

I am curious what your cost on the labor is on this?
What did you pay for the engine, is it rebuilt or just plain used?

I am looking at another Volvo right now that needs an engine.

There is no way a 5cyl whiteblock weighs 700lbs. Knock about 400-500 off that and you're probably in the ballpark.

You mean an engine weighs 200 lbs, the same as ME!!?? I really doubt that.
[edit] But you are right - still not 700 lbs. More research indicates that B5244T or B5244T3 weighs about 350 pounds.

5 years ago I carried home an 850 manual trans in my '93 854 trunk, along with probably 50 pounds of other parts and tools, etc. The car obviously felt "heavy", but handled okay, including a swerve to avoid someone who made a close-call left turn across my path at about 40 mph.

At that yard, I helped a customer who just happened to find a newish looking rotary engine (Mazda, I think) while he was there looking for other parts. He couldn't leave that engine behind so tore into removing it. I helped him balance it in the wheelbarrow from the yard to the main building and outside to his car. We did put that engine into the back fold-down seating area of his small hatchback, which I guess was a Mazda. I had my doubts. He was determined. We rolled it in from the wheelbarrow, of course oil he thought had been drained ran out to the interior. I had some cardboard I gave him to put under it. He had no way to tie it down. He drove off with it laid over, rocking a bit. That operation felt really risky.

Would I try to carry an engine in the 850? After that, no.

Edit: another experience with overloading a trunk area. I had a 1987 Nissan Stanza with fold down rear seats that I loaded to the max with oak flooring I bought used. The Nissan was really sagging, but managed the load for the 10 miles I carried it. However, shortly after, when I returned to where the car was parked in the sun the rear window had shattered (near a generally trouble-free recreational area with lots of people around). I didn't find any sign of a projectile. The trunk area looked like it might have been sprung a little, possibly pulling a downward force on the window. Not something I can prove. But consider the trunk is mostly behind the rear wheel support point, and is not intended to support the same total weight as the body at or in front of the rear wheel supports. So with enough weight loaded in there, it could distort the floor pan and sheet metal to exert considerable forces on everything above the trunk lid. Just a thought.

No way that engine weighs 700+lbs. I have pulled 3 of them in the past year and I know that 3 average guys can lift it into a pickup no problem. I am guessing more like 300+/- Lbs.
