Manual says remove dipstick tube...

Post by Sagan »

... But nothing says how. I've got the oil pan out and still can't figure out how to remove the tube. Is it just one of those "pull real hard" things?

12mm bolt facing up (vertically) screwed into the inlet manifold. Using a mirror may help to locate it however just follow the dipstick tube with your hand and you'll feel the bolt head.

I've got that part done. Tube wiggles now, but wont come out of the pan. Heck, the pan is out if the car with the tube still attached.

The tube has an o ring on it and is stuck into the port on the pan. The o ring may have bonded itself to the oil pan metal. Pull harder.

I can do that. How do I put it back in then?

We are talking bout the engine oil pan dipstick aren't we?
Once it is out and you use a new seal it slides in with about 3 ounces of force.

It's not out yet. Just seeing what all is involved in putting it back in. As it is, the pan is dropped and it may not get removed from the pan, but it is awkward.

So, I would need a new o-ring for the tube and cuould put it back in after I put the pan back up?

you should really use a new o-ring. I had the same problem, I couldn't take the dipstick tube out. I finally got it out by trying to push from under the car instead of pulling from above. I guess you just need to apply enough force in the right direction.

Thanks. It took enough pulling that I thought it was going to break. Finally came out though. New oring came with the oring kit for the oil pan. Putting her back together today.
