2003 V70 Base Brake Booster

Post by chrism »

I need to replace the brake booster as it occasionally emits a high pitch whistle from under the dash (which I can quiet by tapping the brake pedal). Some of the parts houses sell rebuilts which I assume are actually the OEM ATEs which are rebuilt. Generally everyone carries two versions - with traction control ($350) and without traction control ($175). My car has a "STC" button so can I take that to mean I DO need the traction control version? There is supposed to be a slight difference in the diameter, but I don't know where that's measured. Does anyone know the differences in outward appearance between the two versions?

Also, have any of you performed a booster R&R? What's involved? It looks like a few things, besides just the master cylinder, need to be cleared out of the way.

Much thanks.

If I remember correctly, DSTC uses brakes, STC just cuts engine power.

vti,
That makes sense. I find it hard to believe that my base model V70 (plain Jane) would have a high end option like that. Thanks.

I don't know, wife's V70 feels like a higher class than XC70 I drive. Quieter, much better seat cushions, packed with all these small things like home-link or cargo net. Even audio is better.
