2000 s80t6 fresh air pipe broken on end

Post by treestone27 »

the fresh air molded pipe on my 2000 s80t6 is busted a bit on the end (where the clamp tightens to hold it on the pipe). it's the prominent molded pipe on either side of the double exhaust pipes. Can i just tape it or must i replace it? it's about $200 usd. Please let me know - thanks!

i ordered a new fresh air pipe. but, i'm still hoping to hear someone say it's not a big deal to tape up as the pipe seems expensive. there's oil on the nipple where an electronic component fits into the pipe and on the pipe end which is cracked. i'm not sure why oil would be in those places as the pipe appears to run from the air filter. any ideas? i didn't confirm positive pressure using the dipstick test. i just had the shop replace the pcv and will do another dip stick test once i install the cvvt solenoid. any advice would be appreciated!

the crack was on the end of the pipe where the collar would tighten down - and a bit interior to the pipe. i went ahead and got the new pipe. i'm getting lulled into replacing so much now at 170k miles. i have one big oil leak or multiple small ones - just need to get the solenoid replaced first and stabilize the rpms.

Oh I see, this pair of pipes commonly cracks at the ends, where it can it can introduce a vacuum leak. I have mine neatly patched with several layers of black electrical tape ( on the end near the turbo ) and it doesn't leak. If it's cracked somewhere else I'd replace it.

thanks - i ended up replacing the double pipe and the largest molded plastic pipe. New plastic is much easier to put back on than the brittle stuff.

Where did you order the pipe? I think I have the same problem, also the vacuum leak that Oly_850 mentioned. I hate how plastic gets brittle over time, especially when exposed to the heat of an engine.

Does the dealer still carry them? I can only imagine the price, yikes. You can buy an early S80 with a dead engine or transmission for under $1000.
