2000 XC70 Cross bar removal

Post by koley5 »

I want to remove the cross bars from my roof rack. A T30 torx screw in the little hole, right? Or do I have that wrong? I looked in there with my flashlight and didn't see much. I tried sticking a long, T30 screwdriver in there, but didn't feel anything. Am I on the right track or not? Any advice, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Pull back on the cover where the Volvo logo is stamped and this should reveal an area with screws of some kind. You may need to pry the cover off with a flat screwdriver

Yep! Two Torx screws, don't remember the size. I removed mine in hopes of gaining some mpg. Haven't noticed much difference.

Edit: I was wrong! Another fake memory pulled out of the basement of my brain. I swear I could see a picture of the two screws.

i took off the cover, as was suggested, but found no screws inside (see attached). they're probably in there somewhere, right? some people have the knack for this stuff and some don't. i found out, years ago, which camp i was in. i was a liberal arts major.

i finally got it. T30 security torx down the little hole on top. I tried a regular T30 screwdriver the other day and got nothing, but the security torx did the trick. gotcha. see what a BA in Daydreaming prepares you for?

you reached the same point as the guys who studied engineering and tore their hair out doing problem sets, because you developed the social skills to ask people to help you with a problem.

One of you is ahead, and the other has no hair.
