240 mass air meter
I have a 86' 240DL. From reading this board I think I have a bad mass air meter. It starts and idles fine, but when you try to give it gas it dies. If you give it gas very slowly it will rev up. I removed the mass air meter, and the front screen is torn, and there seems to be some fine wires in the "bore" of the sensor, one of which is broken. Am I heading in the right direction? any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Yes you are. The wire should not be damaged or touched. Replace it and check all other conections My 740 had rotted terminals on the ECM.And would not let the engine run very good of off idle.
Good luck If you need any more help don't be afraid to ask.
One more thing use only factory repair books as the others will send you inthe wrong direction.

As A. Baker mentioned you have definitly found the problem. The screens on the MAFS are there to protect the fine wires. If the wires are broken then there will not be any signal sent to the EMC.
Replace the MAFS and you will be ready for many more miles
