'99 V70 Base, auto non-turbo -- Seat Recovering and SRS code

Post by E Showell »

I will be recovering a front passenger seat. I probably do not have a chunk of time to do the job in one fell swoop. Can I remove the seat (with the neg. battery terminal disconnected, of course), then reconnect the battery and drive around for a few days with the passenger seat our without setting an SRS code?

Anybody ever done it? Drive around without a passenger seat without setting an SRS code?

When I did my evap AC I remember reading advice that if you power up the SRS without components connected on a 1999

1 You will get an SRS code

2 Only a dealer can clear these.

With the seat out connect a 2,2 Ohm resistor across the two wires that go to the green/ purple two pin plug that normally connects to the seat, do this with the battery disconnected, when you fire the car back up the resistor will fool the cars SRS system in to thinking the airbag initiator is still connected - You should be able to get the resistor from Radio Shack/ Tandy for no more than about 25C etc - Mike

Thanks for the suggestion, Mike. I'm more inclined to just finish the work in one sitting.

My 2000 phase one V70 still has resistors fitted some eighteen months after I swapped the seats for earlier ones with the mechanically fired SIPS bags, works a treat - Mike
