So my brakes went out today and mechanic says I need to replace the copper brake lines and that they have cracked. After some research, I realized there's an HEL replacement. I also noticed a bunch of companies just sell the straight copper line and then fittings (which is far more affordable).
Any tips on best practice here? Are there alternatives to HEL or is OEM and HEL are the only two choices? What about the raw copper? Is it trivial for mechanics to do that or should we stick to a prebuilt part?
Also, he said it's unknown if the master cylinder and/or the seals could have been blown out when the brakes went out. Any experience on how likely it is just the lines and not other parts?
