2001 V70XC B5244T3/55-50 B5254T2/55-51 swap?

Post by vco123 »

Wife has a 2001 V70XC, 280K km on it, loves the car doesn't want to get rid of it. Engine and Trans are still running ok, have some signs of getting long in the tooth, everything else on car is in perfect shape.

Found a 2003 S60 awd with 120k km on it, dropped the engine w/trans out of it and cleared out pretty much every other component other than the frame and body panels.

Is it possible to do a simple swap of the engine and trans between these two units without much headache? I can provide serial/vin of the units if that helps,

The gearbox is still a AW55-50SN however the revheads here say the valve body has different control after 2002 and won't work on earlier cars due to TCM firmware being adapted to it. Personally I'd like to test that.
The motors are virtually identical apart from a stroke increase to 2521cc in the 2003. Thermostat housing is different. The 2002 and above S60 has Haldex AWD with a different angle gear.

There may be some detail differences here and there.

2001 is single CVVT and 2003 is dual CVVT.
ECM is not portable between the two but maybe Xemodex could make the 2003 ECM useable in the 2001.

So it's not possible to move the ECM/TCM across with the Engine and Trans?

Serial on the 55-50SN is 00Kv710008 (Nov '00 I gather?)
Serial on the 55-51SN is 02LV735445 (Dec '02 I gather?)

if that helps at all.

No they're coded to the car via CEM.

The programs they run for control however may be cloned from one module to another by XeModex or Skype user "doublebug" Henry has cloned many items for me remotely through the internet as long as you have a Dice reader.

Hmm, ok, I'll check into it a bit more. Having the CEM from the other car makes no difference either I guess? like I said, i scraped EVERYTHING out of the car. For $300, I'm guess I can't really complain, getting the HU-803 and speakers/NAV crap out of it was a score as it was (intending to do a CarPC project with it) the engine components et' all was a bit of a bonus, even for the (seemingly new) ignition coils that I need to replace. Was really hoping it would have been more a "personality transplant" if I was swapping all the major components from one chassis to the other....

Sorry, excuse my naivety here, just thought the ECM/TCM was going to be enough to do the swap....but, what else do you expect on an impulse buy...
