1993 850 ECC Failure and Climate Control Codes

Post by jptorny »

My ECC has recently given up - when I turn the vehicle on, the recirc and AC lights flash for 20 seconds or so. I pulled the codes for climate control, and pretty much everything comes back. I get 11 codes (126,132, 134, 135, 211, 231, 235, 322, 325, 417, and 418). I find it awfully coincidental that all of these items stopped simultaneously. Does this suggest that my ECC itself has failed?

Thanks.

The quick answer is Yes.
My '93 did. They have a known, and well documented history of burning up a few capacitors internally. You will get extraneous codes.
Late '95-97 have a more solid state designed board. Find a salvage piece.
Do a search for ECC unit, especially '93 850. There is much to read. Also, check the repair database.

Ben850, thanks for your reply. I'll plan on hitting the local Pick n Pull to find a new ECC.

These are cake to change out. Just pull the radio forward (no need to unplug it) and reach up behind the ECC and push it out.
