UPDATE:
So I checked the MAF with a multimeter, as well as tried running the car without it plugged in and nothing has changed.
I did however decided to inspect the vacuum lines more thoroughly and discovered that one of the plugs was clogged with what appears to be either carbon or some sort of oil. I am not sure what this vacuum line is called so I have labeled photos
Location of Clogged end (circled in red) Also, what is the plug circled in blue for?
Where the vacuum line comes from:

Clogged plug (I poked through it the best I could with the multimeter)

So could this clog be causing all of my troubles? and if so how should I clean it out?

That's not causing your problem. That hose just switches your air intake from hot to cold air.
I though your MAF would be the cause but it wasn't.

I read somewhere earlier tonight that there are some hoses behind the ETM that can sometimes come undone, so I am going to check that and report back tomorrow.
I didn't notice this at the time but searching for parts tonight I found a gasket for the ETM and when I removed mine there wasn't one. Could a lack of gaskets be causing this, even though there was not one before the problem arose?
I am starting to contemplate having the car towed to a Volvo dealer because I'm running out of ideas.

I had to replace my original ETM, and used a XemodeX unit.
I forgot to put the gasket on...it ran like crap
installed the gasket, and all better.
so yes, the gasket makes a difference
install this, and then continue with the troubleshooting exercise

also, get a PCV replacement kit...it is a complete and comprehensive kit with vacuum hoses and an intake manifold gasket (manifold needs to be removed for access)
this PCV is a regular and important maintenance item...don't ignore it...
if badly clogged, you will start to blow seals, and that isn't good for anyone
don't know for sure (but logically) once you install a new one, vacuum is improved, and many of the incidental issues associated with a clogged PCV may be mitigated
check IPD and FCP for the kit
dealer wants a lot for the kit and to install!

That would give you a rough idle. Did you see if you have fuel as well as fuel pressure. Pull a spark plug and see if it sparks.

The engine does start so im getting sparks, and I have a half tank of fuel. I will see about getting the pressure tested, as well as installing the new gasket.
Ill see if I trust myself doing a job as large as replacing the pcv in a parking lot with minimal tools.

I wouldn't waste my time on the PVC trap until you get the car started.

The car starts, however after about 30 seconds of the idle rpm jumping between 400 and 1000 the car shuts down.537playing wrote:I wouldn't waste my time on the PVC trap until you get the car started.
