Yeah, I'm going to try to see that one, the 1998 S70 with 148K miles.

This one caught my eye:

> Volvo 960 Wagon - $1900 - Only reason I am listing this as "Fair" condition is that the heater core needs to be fixed. 24 valve engine in great condition, new battery, leather seats, sun roof.

The current owner bought this car in 1996 when it had only ~26K miles on it. It's now at 173K miles. It's not a turbo. He's says he's taken good care of it and he has all the records. His mechanic told him he'd replace the heater core for $1200+.

Thoughts?

The 960 is a better car. I have even been able to get the same if not better gas mileage with it. No knowledge about heater core issues but other than that, they are a lot less maintenance.

If you don't do your own work, I'd stay away from the 850's and x70 cars.

You may need to look beyond Santa Cruz.
San Jose, Los Gatos etc.

Also, don't limit it to S70, if you can find a 1998 V70, then it is a good choice too.

Try this link below, call the dealer for mileage. I'd personally look for something with 130K or less:

For websites, it boils down to:
- Craigslist
- Autotrader dot com
- Cars dot com
- Cargurus dot com.

Thanks for the videos and suggestions! I am searching further afield -- the SF bay area and a little beyond -- and looking at 940/960 too. I'm hoping to look at a 1995 940 wagon soon.

I really liked the videos. I visited Robert DIY channel on You Tube, but I could not find similar info on the 940/960.

Thanks!

940 or 960 are fine cas but you will have a hard time finding some with less than 120K miles.

You will have more luck with 1993-97 850 and 1998 S70/V70.
Although California cars have no rust, they tend to have more miles because Californians drive long distance a lot.

also check the IPD classified section and the For Sale sections on this and other volvo forums. i found mine on Swedespeed. the cars are pretty popular up in the PNW, so you get a lot of results from around there, but i dunno if you're willing to make that long drive.

if you buy a car from one of those sites, it's more likely you'll end up with something that's been properly cared for by an enthusiast (though it's by no means guaranteed).

+1 for forum for-sale sections, best source for used Volvos. Or, a source for some of the best used ones, anyways. There are several forums.
