2000 s70 Electrical problems

Post by Veilleuxpbd »

Hi! It's my first time really posting here despite being a fan for a long time (and not having problems with my car, which was nice :) ).

Anyway, I had a couple of problems recently that all happened within a week, usually with two days between them (coincidence?).
First, I got a CEL P1670, which I cleared and hasn't came back.
Then, I got the wonderful SRS warning light, which I understand means a trip to the stealer (note, I have the Torque App on my smartphone, but I haven't found volvo pids, maybe someone knows a site?)
And now, the trunk open light with the little beeping noise that wont shut up decided to stay on ALL the time, EXACTLY as my doors decided that if my car is running but I'm not driving (red lights), if the doors are unlocked and I wanted to lock them, ''pfff, nah not my problem'', they would unlock themselves.

Now, I have a little knowledge of how I should tackle all these problems, especially if they would have not brang friends to the party, but their closeness in time leaves me wondering if something I have no knowledge of might not be going insane?

Firstly for the SRS check the plugs under the front seats, both seats should have a two pin green/ purple connector, this is for the airbag in the seat, make sure it is plugged in, there is also a grey two pin plug under the drivers seat (some cars had this under the passenger seat as well) this is for the seat belt buckle to tell the car the seat belt is fastened, if this plug is disconnected on a MY2000 car it will trigger the SRS light.
If you find any of the plugs above disconnected I would disconnect the battery prior to plugging them back in, once re-connected with the battery connected the SRS light will still be on, to reset this requires access to Vida software running on a computer connected to the car via a DiCE interface box, generic readers used by Torque are useless for clearing the SRS caption.
P1670 is the immobilizer aerial around the ignition barrel, it needs the its plug contacts cleaning, the usual symptom that generates the P1670 code is when the engine fires and runs for about one second before cutting out (sound familiar).
For the trunk open light check the wiring going to the boot latch where it passes through the hinge as the wires often break, fray and short out causing strange behaviour, it could be a simple case of a stuck microswitch in the boot lid lock - Mike

Thanks a lot, I'll follow your advice, step by step. I hope that's going to resolve all my problems, and I'll update once I tried all of this.
So all of these problems coming all within a week would be a coincidence? I know its plausible, but couldn't there be a bigger problem and these are just symptoms?

For the P1670, everything is ok, as a temporary fix I simply started using my second key.
For the srs, I did find a loose connection under the driver seat, which I understand I now need to go to the dealer to get the light re-setted
For the trunk light, I cleaned the lock itself and checked the wires, nothing broken/shorted out. I'm considering, instead of searching for the real solution, removing the little chime that won't shut up, as it reeaally is annoying.
And finally for the doors, might not there be a solution to stop them from unlocking themselves?

PS: I thought about it, and couldn't all those problems be related to my car thinking I got involved in a crash? Like the srs light, doors unlocking (like in an emergency), the chime always on and for some reason the trunk light would be involved?

Quick update; nothing new, except my alarm system went off by itself, thing it never did in over a year.
I'm really starting to feel like this is all related, or part of it is.

The boot open microswitch in the lock assembly could explain why the doors won't lock and why the alarm is going off, I would concentrate on fixing that before looking at issues with the doors - Mike
