Dash Vinyl conditioning...

Post by cn90 »

I was cleaning some stains on the dash (above the instrument cluster) near the windshield glass area using small amount of rubbing alcohol.
The alcohol seems to remove some shiny stuff. Sprayed some Armor-All, all is well now.

Questions:

1. Is rubbing alcohol safe for dash vinyl finish?

2. What do you guys/girls use to "condition" the Vinyl finish?
- Lexol?
- Armor-All?
- Anything else?

I only use armor all. Does a decent job and doesn't mess up the finish and leaves it wet looking. I love it

I use 303 Aerospace Protectant. It has better UV protection than Armor All and doesn't leave a greasy film behind.

Alcohol likely pulled the oils out of aged vinyl and left a dry looking spot??

I use Vinylex Protectant by Lexol but only sparingly. I have a feeling that most of this stuff, with the possible exception of 303 Aerospace, does more harm than good.

I just try to clean it with mild soap. I never use Armorall, I found that it deteriorates vinyl and causes it to be weak and vulnerable to cracking over a few years.

NEVER use alcohol on any vinyl or plastic interior parts, will take the color right off

Same here. I use it on the interior of my jeep and the soft top.

I have been using 303 Aerospace Protectant for some time, works incredibly well. 303 is the world's most powerful UV screening treatment for vinyl. Awesome stuff!

I've only used 303. A lot of posts out there claim that Armor All ruins vinyl within a couple of years ...
