I'm redoing the coolant hoses and frankly don't want to spend $30.00+ (local Volvo dealer) for the lower expansion tank hose. fcp carries the Volvo brand for a little less $$.
Found some URO preforms for dirt cheap.
Suggestions?

Your post caught my eye because I'm in the market for the same stuff for the S70, but I have not heard anything good about URO as a parts maker. They are fcp's low end parts line. Usually fcp offers a middle level part, but I'm considering spending the bucks for OEM on the coolant system as I did at the 120K mark. If a hose blows, it takes about a minute to empty the system and issuant overheating.
Perhaps some other members will chime in with advice for us. I would be interested to know if Gates brand is still any good.

Okay, here's fcp's lineup:
http://www.fcpeuro.com/Volvo-parts/850/ ... m=20&e=153
It looks like they have the Mckay brand for the lower (outlet?) hose at a great price. Maybe it's worth buying two and sacrificing one to an extreme pressure test—off the car, just to have a little data. How much pressure would it need to hold to pass?
BTW dosbricks, I've used what I believe are Gates hoses (from NAPA) in recent years and haven't had any problems, but I don't put too many miles on the 850's, so that's not much of a testimonial. They appear to be good quality.

I did the silicone job on my wagon, But I did buy the McKay brand from FCP for my Sedan.
They are a fairly new Australian company, so I don't think they have been "time tested" as of yet, but they do seem to be striving to build a good reputation as opposed to just being inexpensive.
The 21 year old expansion tank hoses are still on the Sedan. I will change them to the McKays, along with a thermostat, upper radiator hose and temp. sensor before winter.
