1991 volvo 240 shifter cover install automatic

Hello Again MVS- I was wondering if there is a simple way to install a Shifter Cover for a 1991 automatic volvo 240. I read online to Remove the Overdrive Button, then Grasp the shifter knob and wiggle left and right while I pull upward. I cannot get this knob to Budge whatsoever. I am afraid I will break the knob
or it's plastic innards. Many thanks,,,
