2001 S80 Car stuck in Park

I have not had any issues with this prior to todays incident. I put the car in park and it got stuck? I have never heard of this before in any vehicle so I have no idea where to begin. I have read a few of the other forums, however they are all on cars of different years so I am not sure how valid the information is or if volvo has continued to use mostly the same designs on their cars. It has only happened this once and after turning the car on and off five or so times it finally came out of park. Any ideas what this could be I have read it could be the button on the side of the shifter or a microswitch solenoid? not sure where that would be and also wondering if there is any way to test to see what it could be. Also wondering if anyone knows how much the solenoid runs if it needs to be replaced. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you
