No adaptation needed. Just install and drive. I highly suggest changing both sensors if you have 2. At 100,000 miles their service life is over.

You may want to try cleaning the O2 sensor first if you are getting a slow response code like I was. I cleaned both sensors (mainly because it is much easier, they were full of soot) with some MAF/MAP cleaner. So far so good. The O2 sensor socket is worth the investment, I had a wrench and it would slip.

If the check engine light is now on, what is the number of the code it is now setting? Also, are your codes European only, or are they the same as US OBDII codes?

Since this seems to be an air/fuel problem beginning with the O2 sensor, go here:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/volvo- ... 96-to-1998
Under "A 2 fuel" scroll down to:
233 P0172 (part load & upper limit) Long term idle air trim P0172 code broken elbow
Then click on: "code broken elbow" to go here:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 06&start=0
This is a common and hard to spot failure on models equipped with this. It could be throwing your fuel trim way off and setting the O2 code. Inspect this part and report back, OK.

Any hose or rubber connector that is cracked or broken and allowing a significant vacuum leak is a problem. With the age of your car it would be wise to inspect and replace all hoses that have failed or look suspicious.

Is that the reason for the problem?Does idling causes irregularity?
