I am planning to add 1/16" thick plate to the front of all of the dashboard mounts. Do you guys think the extra thickness in front of the mounts will affect the fit of the dashboard? How thick did you go in your fixes before you noticed it affecting the fit.

I used aluminum flashing. Whatever you use it'll be away from the dash board that much further, but that's all that's holding it on anyway. What are you screwing it into?

Will it affect the fit if I have 1/16" plate in front of the dash mounts? (1/16" Between the firewall and plastic mounts).

Are there any aftermarket dashboard makers that fit Volvo 850? I remember seeing something on the net.

There is some slop in the notches on the firewall where the mounts are inset but whether or not they will fit is kinda dependent on how you intend to fabricate the mounts. If you add side reinforcement it would add 1/8"+ to the overall width and things might start to get tight at that point.

The issue really isn't the strength of the reinforcement so much as it is the strength and integrity of what they are mounted to, in this case the air duct.

Actually there isn't anything to the sides of the mounts in the vicinity. The only place is the front of the mount against the firewall and bottom of the mount.

The airduct is thin. It needs to be reinforced.

How did the JB Waterweld hold over time? Did it crack? I tested it, it adheres to the surface ok, but is very rigid and brittle. Vibrations and temperature swings are the enemy of rigid and brittle joints.

jbweld has been awesome so far, I think it's been 9 months and no signs of it breaking down.

Does anyone know the torque specification for the dashboard four screws that go into the firewall? I don't want to break them again and at the same time I don't want to under torque.

You don't want to tighten them by torque setting.

Make sure the dash is firmly forward so that the lugs are contacting the forward metal of the firewall, insert bolts and tighten until they make contact of the bolt head with the front metal, then stop. If you have felt or other material in place it won't squeak, but a little bit of movement will probably help stop it from breaking.

I'll see if there is a torque setting in Alldata, but that's for new plastic !!

I am thinking about reinforcing each mount with a fiberglass, but that will add thickness to the front of the mount about 1/16"-1/8". I'm not sure if it is worth risking the fit.
