1994 850 - Are climate control units interchangeable?

Post by sethhahn »

My 850 has the manual climate control unit (I believe that's what they call it), the one with the "red bars" above the heater knobs instead of temperatures.
I broke my AC/REC switch when I was troubleshooting the AC and I'm very bummed. I can't seem to find the replacement switch anywhere, but I do see what looks like a ton of the "automatic climate control" units on eBay (see attached photo). Can I swap this easily with my unit? If so what is involved?

No.

ECC (the name for the whole system, not just the controller) moves damper doors with electric motors getting signals from the control unit pictured above

MCC uses conventional wires and mechanical pivots for dampers and electrical signals for fan and AC inhibit. I'm not sure how MCC controls the recirc door

Adapting one for the other would be like turning a Swede into a German.

If you need an MCC control head, put a WTB on that board and lets get the Pick and Pull crowd back to work.

The AC-REC switch is replaceable. It snaps in from behind if you remove the radio. I have had to replace both of them on my MCC units.
