Hi again.
Back again with another drama- this one has put the car back in the shed until I can get my head around it.
Having issues with what seems like either ETM or fuel pump?
Symptom- intermittent low power, apply throttle and zero response from engine- actually seems to loose all power until throttle is backed off.
When car is going up a hill, slows to a crawl.
Come to top of the hill and off she goes again.
I did a DICE scan last weekend and no obvious codes showed up. However the ETM does seem to be out marginally when I did a test on it.
Will do another scan this weekend and see if I missed something.
Cheers

White sticker ETM I'm afraid.
Took it for a drive today and there is noticeable surging around 1,500-1,700 rpm when cruising at 40 kph.
My ETM is shot, will be calling up my local Volvo parts guy first thing Monday to check if he has a spare yellow sticker ETM.
In Australia we have a guy who does the conversions to the better system.

Does anyone know if the VIN coding for the new ETM can be done using DICE?

I'm the guy. Place Vida in Network menu and highlight the ETM, then read off the last two software numbers. Write them down.
If the replacement ETM has the same numbers you're home and hosed. Just be sure to choose "UPDATE" when Vida runs through the VIN and module scan at startup.
IF Your ETM is still readable MVS contributor "doublebug" can remote in and copy your ETM firmware to any replacment ETM while using your Dice and his home grown firmware extraction and writing software. The service I provide is only available when I have good cores available. I rewrite customer's ETM to my own NA 2000 V70 and test drive for at least 2 days before I provide it as an exchange unit. Also I provide new ETMs as per the link page.
Be sure the MAF isn't the cause of the issues. Isolate by running disconnected on a test drive. Also be sure there aren't any MAF codes you may have missed. Have you checked fuel pressure? In the absence of ETM error codes it's unlikely the ETM is your problem.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your help.
Your information and assistance has been invaluable!
I will run a Dice scan on the car tonight or tomorrow ( I'm looking after a 4 year old so finding time to tinker in the garage is limited!)
Hoping it is just the MAF as it would be a much cheaper fix to keep the V70 running.
Cheers

I haven't had any TC lights flash, just my usual dreaded Transmission service required message- not sure if that is causing it as well?
It seems to run fine before this happened.
I will be checking the MAF as well when I get some time.

The non turbo ETM cars run a Denso brand MAF which is almost indestructable. They are also very expensive to replace when compared to the Bosch equipped cars.
They require a clean with MAF cleaner but they have no track record of failure.

If you have transmission trouble, the fault can kick your engine into limp mode with no engine faults.Locky2001V70 wrote:I haven't had any TC lights flash, just my usual dreaded Transmission service required message- not sure if that is causing it as well?

Read the transmission codes as a start.
The 2001 transmission is an orphan year (fact check please, experts) so it is tough to find a replacement, just a heads up.
