So my 2001 T6 is showing "Engine System Service Required" and the orange exclamation point. I decided to scan it with my generic scanner and the only code was P1238 but no "Check Engine Light" was illuminated. I inspected the lines to the Turbo Control Valve and they look old but not damaged, I'm leaning toward the valve itself being bad.
But I don't have access to a Vida Scanner to find out what the Engine System Service message is about.
Would the P1238 cause the Engine System Service message to be displayed? Any suggestions to get the message removed?

I should mention, the auto dim feature on the rear view mirror is broken thus my rear view mirror is all black from the liquid. Also there was a black cylindrical sensor off the brake canister with a connection to it. The connector is broken off.
The car however is running well, no limp mode, good pickup and acceleration, alarm and sunroof work, shifts in all gears.

If your tcv hoses aren't dry rotted, I'd be very impressed. Do you have a lack of power, or surging at WOT? If so, likely related to the tcv and its hoses.
The sensor is likely the brake pedal position sensor.

Matt,
Thank you for the reply. I literally just got out of the junk yard and made out pretty good. I think. Two TCV Valves, the sensor on the brake canister, the broken seat belt plastic and other minor assorted plastics for $20 bucks.
I'm going to hit Autozone later today for some replacement hoses they do look pretty old. I never drive at WOT so I'm not sure. The car accelerates and runs fine, but the message for "Engine System Service Required" comes on every second start after I clear it with my generic scanner.
I plan to replace the brake sensor when I get home tonight after the engine cools since there is like no space.
Would either those two things make the "Engine System Service Required" message popup?

Also, the auto dimmer mirror feature is broken on the car, I have the "lava lamp" effect going on. Would that make the engine system service light come on?

The "Engine System Service Required" light turned out to be the broken brake pedal sensor on the brake canister, replaced it with a salvaged unit from todays junk run, cleared codes and thus far it hasn't returned after a test drive with several stops along the way.
