another question --

what is the attitude toward these Gabriel ready mount struts? I'm a conservative driver, car has 130k.

and again, is the T5 strut same as the regular S70? thanks

I think the T5 and S70 strut are the same, but I would research that URO strut mount before purchasing - I do not recall any good reviews on this part. Those kits are convenient to order, but if you have to redo this job next year you might forget that convenience.

Struts are all the same
Do NOT buy a URO mount
OEM only for spring seats and bearing plates

yeah -- right after I posted this I discovered that -- oem only. fcp has a good strut kit with oem parts -- so the T5 is the same as standard?

All the same as far as bolting them up. The characteristics of the struts differ by a large margin in terms of handling and stiffness of ride. The OEM struts and shocks are actually a very good compromise, they handle reasonably well and the ride is about as good as it gets. Any variations between brands and models becomes a personal preference.

I agree with all the other guys have given as advice, especially not to use any URO products, especially made from rubber compounds!

I have a 1998 V70 XC with standard Volvo suspension and it rides just great. Prior to that had a 93 850 GLT which I fitted Bilstein Touring shocks. They were a good compromise with a good bit more control of the front end, but they did ride harder than OE.

Also have a 2000 V70R which was bought with Bilstein HD shocks. It was way too hard for road use around here. Replaced them with Touring spec Bilsteins again. Still harder than standard, but a compromise between softer OE and HD Bilsteins. If you want to tighten up the car, look into IPD sway bars (fitted to my V70R) and even a strut brace, but you can still run OE shocks.

All in all, it comes down to what kind of driving you do.

Good luck!

Neil.
