'98 V70 camshaft seals and crank seal

Post by Miltown »

Hey all doing a timingbelt/water pump on my V70. 140,000 on it. So in my kit it came with cam seals for the timing belt side and a crank seal . Is this a necessary change? Is there typical failure like the seals on the other side of the camshafts. The cam seals look easy but the crank seal at the oil pump does not look fun. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
paul

If the cam/crank seals do not leak, leave them alone.

The CAM seals are NOT easy, especially the exhaust seal

The CRANK seal is part of the Oil Pump kit.

I would say if it is not broken, then leave it alone. If your PCV system is working good, and pressure is not building up, (balloon test on oil dip stick), leave it be. At 140,000, that is young.

Thanks guys . Yeah no leaks just came with the kit. Did the PVC system last year so I'm sure no pressure from that.

Also, many of the kits you buy on the web contain second-rate seals, they are notorious for leaking.
So if you replace the factory Although old) seals with the seals that came with the kit, you can almost be sure that they will leak in the near future.

Anyway, leave the seals alone.

Agree leave it alone ..... I have all new wires, plugs, condenser, rotor, and Volvo plugs, just waiting to tune her up, shes running just fine. I have a crack front seal leak, and I'd like to change the oil pump seal while I'm at it,, shes a sweetheart of a car, and I'll wait to tune her after the oil leak is fixed.
