1998 S70 Replacing PCV elbow

Post by Mr. Detail »

Hello all;
Well I am half way there . I did what one gentlemen here suggested if my hands were not too "meaty" and attempted to remove & replace the 90 degree rubber elbow that comes out of the manifold beneath the upper radiator hose. I just completed removing the old one which had a nice hole in the side of it. Now what I thought would be the easier part is not.
Any suggestions on getting the new one on?

1) Should I grease or put Vaseline on the ends for ease of insertion?
2) Should one end go on first before the other? (Larger, top end is stationary where the other is not)

It is also hard to hold the loose end (smaller diameter) with a pair of pliers and push the new one on.

I bought a pair of hemostats from Harbor Freight that made things at least possible. Not easy, but possible.

I bought a straight and curved set of 12" pliers from Harbor freight and took about 2 minutes. I held the line with the curved ones while I slid the elbow on with the straight one then used the curved To slide the elbow over the nipple on the manifold.
