1999 Volvo Turbo sounds like it is blowing air out a vent

Post by flyingd »

I have a 1999 Volvo V70 XC. When I accelerate and the turbo kicks in I have no extra power; it sounds like the boost is escaping outside. Sometimes the sound quits and I have boost for a minute and then the sound of escaping boost again and no extra power. I have made a quick inspection and do not see any detached hoses. Any ideas of what to look for? Is there a by-pass that could go bad? How hard is it to pull the turbo?

Thanks in advance

They often get loose at the intercooler connections, or you have a split in the tube ( or even better in the intercooler itself, see Matts recent posts).

Your diagnosis is certainly spot on for a leak!

Found the leak....thanks for the help.

It was a tear in the boot between the turbo and the crossover pipe.

Part ordered and it will be running wed again:)
