No advantage to Pro unless you're in a networking environment.

If you really must upgrade you had better be quick as Win 7 Pro is now only offered as OEM meaning you need to buy hardware alongside the OS. Soon it will not be sold because Win 8 is replacing Win 7.

Google "edit Win 7 registry" or "installing Vida to Win 7 Home" There will be videos and tutorials.

The VM Ware image works also.

The upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Professional cost $ 89.95.

I choose the VM Ware, but how I do it?

Any help appreciated. hanks in advance.

I tried the following on my Windows 7 home premium. It did not work.

Code: Select all

1. Run regedit, do this by clicking on the Windows logo on the left corner of your bottom Windows toolbar, and typing "regedit" without the quotes into the "Search files and programs" area.

 2. When the program launches, find the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->Microsoft->Windows NT->CurrentVersion, now click on that.

 3. You should see "EditionID", and it has a value of "HomePremium". Change this to "Professional" by clicking on it and typing "Professional" without the quotes into the popup box.

 4. Leave regedit open.

 5. Install VIDA 2010D

 6. Go back into the regedit program and change that value back to "HomePremium".
I think it is because all I did was change the windows registry and left it open. I did not save it! When I went back and check on computer properties it still said Home Premium not Professional. It then stopped the install of VIDA / DiCE.

It never completed it. I think it is because all of did was change the registry - I did not save it.

What else can I do?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think you answered your own question here.

I would recommend setting a system restore point prior to saving the registry though. That way if anything goes haywire you have a way back .

I am unsure as to how to save the registry in Windows 7.

Also, does VIDA DiCE only work with IE8 and nothing else?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

From a once in a lifetime registry editor I recall closing it and nothing more. If you re-open it and the value is still there it's saved.

Rebooting the system after a change may be the best way to ensure it is recognised.

Vida is picky. I believe IE8 will work but never tried anything higher. You also need Net Framework 4.0 for Win 7.

Vida won't load certain aspects of the interface page correctly without it. It's pretty much mandatory for Vida to work without layout errors. It's a free download from Microsoft's website.

XP has the Net Framework 3.5 requirement for Vida.

I removed .NET Microsoft 4.51 and reinstalled .NET Microsoft 4 on it. It seems unecessary since 4.51 would certainly have all the capabilities of 4. But, I did it anyway.
