The real crux of my problem was an emergency brake that had no holding power. I would pull it, and it would hold very slightly. When I would release it, it obviously wasn't releasing enough because I would hear a scraping sound in the right rear wheel.
Finally, i took it to a shop for diagnosis, and they said my e-brake shoes needed replacement. I didn't have them do it. In driving home, I heard a large clunk several times. I took off the right wheel, and found a broken rotor:

Maybe someone knows how this could have happened?
Anyway, now my real problem is getting on the road again. I have the new e-brake shoe on the right installed, yet the rotor will not fit over the new shoes. Ideas?
