windshield washer pump is stuck on in 1994 850 wagon

Post by bhunter428 »

My windshield washer pump is stuck on. Has anyone had this problem? I disconnected the pump, but then my windshield wipers would not stop. I assume this is because the wipers are wired to come on when you activate the pump to wash your windshield. This leads me to believe that the pump is okay and the issue is somewhere else.

Any help would be appreciated.

Probably a short in the actuator stalk (at the steering column). I have read of others with the same issue. Getting into the stalk area and sorting out the short seemed to be the solution.

On my 98 V70 this identical problem was caused by a short in the wiper motor for the headlight wipers. I'm not sure if your car has those, but if it does, disconnect that lead and see if it solves the immediate problem.
