Greetings-
I searched the postings for this particular problem but not sure if any i found would help.
Anyway, this concerns a '93 940 non-turbo with 104k. We live on a small island in the Pacific and there are no volvo delaers or even reliable volvo mechanics hereabouts - the one guy who would work on them no longer wants the "hassle' - i can relate.
The problem for me is mostly one of diagnosis because i am stumped with this particular problem and hope someone can possibly clue me in with some options.
i have worked ok with this car for the last 6 years. At 100k i put in timing belt, tensioner, seals, belts, rotor, distributor cap, plugs, plug wires, hoses, changed flame trap, cleaned out throttle body, tires- pshew, air cleaner, oil change -i think that is about it.
this was done some months back and everything was just peachy. then about a week or two ago, the check engine light came on but i don't have a scanner and no one i know has one so i was not sure how that related. my wife mainly drives this vehicle and she said she had been noticing a little rough idle and decreased power on acceleration - i had initially discounted this because she has been angling for a new car and that is one good technique for forcing the issue.
i put a can of injector cleaner in thinking maybe this might do it, reset the light (unhooked battery for 20 minutes) and all was good.
two nights ago we had to tow it home because:
as she was going down the road, my wife said the car, at about 45-50 mph at the time, began to over rev and then suddenly shut down, making a "clunk' noise. i came out to get her and tried to start it. it did start, rev'ed high, then low and then just barely chugged as if a choke was stuck, then just died and will not as of this posting start at all even after i charged battery. looked and there are no holes in transmission or engine block and all fluids seem intact.
so anyway i am hoping someone can point me in a direction. best wishes to one and all for the new year....
