2002 S60 No power at the fuel pump

Post by rphud »

My wife's 2002 S60 seems to have no power at the fuel pump. We were smelling gas fumes after running the car for a few weeks and now the car will not start. Tried swapping the fuse and the relay and then probed the two wire plug and the two larger wires on the many wires plug and saw no volts when the key was turned. Getting ready to try and jump out the relay, but any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

thanks much

Bob H.

Could be a faulty fuel pump.Or it may be a clog filter.

Replaced the filter, but it does not appear to have power at the pump from what I have been able to measure. I have read some things about anti theft and other "lock outs" that may defeat the pump relay. That is why I am considering "hot wiring" the pump. Just don't know what the downside may be.

Fine as a diagnostic, poor idea as a long term strategy.

Fire is the downside.

I was thinking the same, but needed a little confirmation on that since things are getting nowhere right now. Might get to the point where a fire would be a good thing.

This one got no answers on JustAnswer as well, and those guys are usually pretty good on my Volvo questions/problems.

Need to troubleshoot the fuel punp circuit or have your mechanic do that. Gas vapor smell points to the evaporative system. Wiring diagram is a good starting point.

I am thinking the wiring is fine, but I suppose I can double check by jumping the relay. My thoughts are it may be buried in the dreaded Volvo computer controls. Only code I see is low pressure in the AC though.

search for a 2002 wiring diagram on this circuit and post here - we can put together a TBLSHT plan from that..

Looks to be straight to the pump from the CEM through the relay. Nothing left but to try and jump it. Not getting any codes though. Some other posts mentioned anti-theft, but would that not give you a code?
