98 V70 AWD Parts Ordering Rude Awakening

Post by rmmagow »

Just had a weird and nasty experience trying to buy parts from Tasca. Generally their on-line prices are pretty good. I live nearby so took a run to get some minor parts, dip stick seal, and evap hose, minor stuff that came to 50ish on-line plus about 10 for shipping 5 miles.
I get there and give him the list, first, nothing at all was in stock, second the bill would have been 120.00 bucks if they did have it! We are talking pretty minor parts here so I was sort of stunned.
Same parts and even a couple of extras came to 55 at FCP. Guess they are going to continue to be my main source. Tasca's still fine for say inside hard parts like a console, a kick panel etc so that even shipping and in my case tax makes it worth while. And the dealership itself is a great playground, Volvo, Mazda, Ford and a TV quality speed shop, I still had a ball. Mad about the prices? No, not really, they aren't a charity and are still similarly priced for area Volvo dealers. This just really hammered home how much the internet has changed the rules of ownership. Between MVS telling you how to fix it and the vendors very competitive pricing we are able to keep 20 year old cars not only running but running good enough to be our daily don't even think about it drivers.

Just like most places, online pricing is different and lower than at the actual store. Nothing new about that

Hendrick Volvo in Kansas City has a massive disparity. They actually charge over list by 20% or more if you just walk up to the counter but online they are very, very competitive and the freight charges aren't as obscene as Tasca's.

Hendrick is so great for ordering ready-cut keys.
