1995 940 AC Compressor Rarely Engages?

Hello all! So this issue started last week, at first I was driving and all was normal, then I noticed the AC wasn't blowing cold for about 4 minutes, then it came on again for 1 minute, then off again. On this day, the air blew cold for about 1 out of every 5 minutes through hours of driving.

The next day, it blew cold for about 5 minutes when I first turned the car on. Then it did not work throughout the day. Let the car sit for a few hours until night time, at night the AC worked fine.

After that night, I am lucky to have the compressor kick on for 1 minute, if the car's been sitting for a long time. Generally, the AC is not working at all now.

Important notes!
1. When I switch on the AC from the button, I do hear the normal quiet click 4 seconds later, which tells me some "signal" is being sent to turn on the compressor. The compressor does not respond.

2. I checked the system pressure, and when the compressor IS ON the pressure is in normal range.

3. When the compressor has turned on in the past few days, the AC blows normal, very cold, no issues when it's functioning. Compressor gets cold to the touch.

4. When AC is set ON, and temp control is set to coldest setting, compressor still has not been turning on, and remains warm to the touch.


So, does this sound like a relay, or a fuse, or is my compressor shot? Thanks for help/advice!!

The a/c controls in dash has a compressor relay built into it. The pin out to compressor can break its solder connection. THis can be repaired by removing the control and then removing the black plastic cover.
