1998 S70 Door and Trunk locks work by themselves

Post by sconus »

Greetings fellow Volvo enthusiasts,

I have owned this vehicle since Nov of 2013. Since the purchase, in this order I have replaced:
-ABS module
-Throttlebody cleaned
-New clutch installed
-New radiator
-New air pump (was supposed to get rid of CEL but didn't)
-New battery

After replacing battery, the door locks lock and unlock by themselves at random and the trunk unlocks itself as well.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks Team!

Many times a dirty door switch or a sticky lock mechanism will cause the locks to cycle. Try locking and unlocking the door and the trunk, with the key, several times. Sometimes you can get lucky and that will loosen the locks up enough that it starts to work again.

Thanks Lee!
I'll give it a shot and report back after some observation.

And just to eliminate it as a possibility,
remove the battery from the remote.

Here is an update on my post.
I can lock/unlock driver door with key.
I cannot lock/unlock all doors by moving key twice to left or twice to right.
The lock/unlock all button on the power window switches (master/passenger) does not work.
i can only unlock all doors except driver door with key fob.
All doors lock with key fob except driver door.
Trunk continues to randomly unlock when I am away from vehicle.
I hope this narrows it down a bit.

The random locking and unlocking issue has been solved! I replaced the passenger power window power door lock switch and that did the trick.

was this just the door lock switch replacement or did you do the window switch too?
