1994 volvo Broke a bit of the solenoid plug

Post by daversm »

So this is a bit of a odd question probably.
While working on replacing my s2 shift solenoid I broken a bit of it off.

The green part in the picture is the area where the bit broken off, not all of it, just a little piece of it.
so now the wire doesn't fit into the green plug snug, it's a very loose fit.

Would it be safe to super glue it back on (if so, any specific glue I should use), or should I buy a new solenoid. Sorry I realize this is probably a dumb question but I really don't want to spend for a new solenoid unless I really have to.

My concern was that the heat and oil will weaken the glue and the piece will just break off again.

thanks,
Daver

In the long run glue likely won't hold up but it might for a while.

I guess you are the only one who can answer the question that places a value on the cost of the solenoid (not cheap) vs. the aggravation factor of replacing it later (PITA).

Bummer.

I just went ahead and ordered a new one. It really is a PITA doing this job, and I do not want to do it again. EVER.

Did you end up getting one from Trans Parts Direct or another source?

yup Trans parts Direct, but the one I broke was the Lock-Up Solenoid so thats the one I ordered.

I also bought the S1 solenoid from them.

I should also add that I have not been able to test the S1 solenoid because I broke the Lock Up solenoid when putting the cover pan back on. So now I'm waiting for that to come.
