1990 740 upper and lower heater core hoses

I'm an idiot, after taking the enormous amount of to time replace my heater core, going through the dash board and everything I cannot figure out which hose goes to the upper and lower nipples on the heater core that is currently poking through the firewall. I assume the hose that I left attached to the heater valve should go to the upper nipple. I tried researching this and looking at images, but I cannot find a definitive answer. Your time is very much appreciated.

From the water pump's outlet side, there is a pipe which goes around passenger side of engine block; where it hooks to a hose that hooks to top-side of heater core.

On heater-core's bottom pipe, a short hose goes to heater-control-valve, and then another hose goes to engine block (or head) on driver's side.
