1999 s70 battery drain
My battery is draining overnight. I did a voltage check through the battery and found #6after fuse is the problem. This fuse handles Central Locking. Is there someway to disconnect the system somehow? When i pull the fuse i have no starter.
When our V70 started draining the battery we discovered that the courtesy lights were not shutting off. "Fixed" it by turning the cabin lights off with the switch and pulling the bulb units out of the door jams. We rarely drive the car at night anyway.

You did a current draw test on each fuse? Maybe one of the solenoids is stuck or shorting causing some leakage current.prospectortom wrote:My battery is draining overnight. I don't know what all runs on fuse #6 but as for central locking: do all of the locks seem to work properly, with the clicker buttons and the different buttons in the car? Unless you can pinpoint one of them as a likely culprit to unplug first, you may have to pull the door panels one at a time and disconnect the power to each lock, see if that changes the current draw. Could also be in the trunk lock I suppose, maybe that one is easier to try first.
Removing the door panels is really easy but expect some clips to break. The clips are expensive from the dealer or parts houses, you can put the panel back on with fewer clips or sub in cheap Christmas-tree style clips from the parts store, if you hunt around for the right size. The other thing that happens sometimes is the little blocks that hold the clips on to the door pull off, they basically come unglued. This is actually easier to deal with than broken clips. I try to remove and install the panels as little as possible, they are 15 years old and something inevitably goes wrong each time they are pulled ...

Gorilla Glue works great to re-attach the blocks. I bought a whole box of 25 clips that work either on line or at AZ. I'll check info on the box at lunch time and maybe it'll help me remember where I got them.

How about a pic of the front of the box? Would be most appreciated!

When i pull the #6 fuse the amp draw stops. But then when i try to start the car with that fuse out i have no starter engaging.

Gotcha. So you need to find out which of the accessories that #6 supplies power to, is causing the excess amp draw.
It could be one of the door locks. Do they all seem to work right (see questions above)?

Have you read the actual parasitic draw (amperage)? There are quite a few circuits that are fed besides Central Locking from that same source. You could put the meter across the fuse with the fuse out and read that way.
Is any of the aux equipment malfunctioning; have you tested all your courtesy lights if they turn on/off as they are supposed to, etc.

Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
