Bought this car about 2 wks ago and it wasn't running well at that time. Engine System Service Urgent message, no check engine light, orange triangle lit on dash. No power, barely made it up my driveway. Engine surges at idle and won't rev above about 1500 rpms. On advice from a local import shop I called, I replaced the MAF. Also replaced the fuel filter.
When pressing the trip odometer button while running I get code 77. I can't find any real reference to this code anywhere. When I run the self diagnosis I get DTC set for these:
ABS
ECM
AUM
CEM
DIM
CCM
PSM
UEM
I don't have a vadis/dice setup or an elm327. Any thoughts here? Am I better off just taking it in to the volvo shop in town?

All these computers are likely seeing a communication problem on the CAN bus. It could be that some wire/connection deteriorated, or one of computers died and jams the bus.
2001 is "well-known" for electronic throttle problems. Google for Magneti Marelli ETM problem.
