Hello,
I have 3 Volvos, all 1998 or earlier. My neighbor has asked me to work on her 2001 V70. When I took a look at it the front suspension is original and the upper spring seats are shot. When I went online to order parts at FCP the site asked me to make sure I had the right chassis. "2001 Volvo V70Sub model: models with Factory Code 1 after Chassis 033858 and models with Factory Code 2 after chassis 028005"
Could someone explain to me the difference. I assumed there may have some rear leveling system at some point, but the front should be the same. Also, any suggestions on the job? I have done the front suspension on a 1994 850 and 2 1998 S70 T5s. This will be my first crack at this model.
Thanks
2001 V70 2.4 T Front Suspension

As far as the front spring seats are concerned it shouldn't matter which VIN code you use as all models of V70 used the same spring seats as far as I'm aware. Why don't you try both VIN choices and see if the spring seat number changes??? I doubt it will.
If your neighbour is close by just call in and grab the VIN and then you can be certain of everything you order.

I've replaced the spring seats 3 times. Lessons learned:
* use Volvo OEM part or the XC90 part or HD spring seats from IPD do not substitute
* inspect the coil spring and replace if suspect as they are known to break, mine did but luckily no tire damage
* front lower control arm front bushings are likely shot. use either OEM bushing and press it in or use HD Meyle control arm assembly with new bushing
